An area resident posted early Monday morning about two grand theft auto attempts and a bicycle theft which involved the breaking of a car window in the parking lot between Stahr Road and Church Road in Elkins Park.
According to their post, a neighbor heard a car alarm and came outside before the suspects fled the scene.
The Cheltenham Police Department arrived moments later and searched the area.
According to another post, a similar incident took place Saturday night during which thieves stole from three parked vehicles after smashing their windows in the 8000 block of High School Road.
From the Facebook post:
The thieves are out tonite in the parking lot that is between Stahr Road and Church Road. The neighbor heard a car alarm then broken glass. They smashed the window in my fiancé’s truck and stole a bike. The neighbor came out and saw that they were trying to steal another car. They ran and went into a car and went down Church Road. Within a minute, 5 cop cars arrived. They were here searching if any other cars were vandalized.
Incident was around 2:35am.
If you see a black Mongoose bike with 1 tire; then it’s ours. My fiancé takes out 1 tire when he puts it in truck. The thieves left the other tire.
