Weavers Way launched a year of programs, events, and promotions on Friday, including a simultaneous cake cut at all three stores in Ambler, Chestnut Hill, and Mt. Airy.

Weavers Way is Philadelphia’s largest grocery co-op with three locations and a fourth store in Germantown scheduled to open within the year.

Its membership has grown since 1973 and is now over 11,000 households. While anyone can shop at the co-op today, members financially own the Co-op, and shape its operations and programs through an elected Board of Directors and Committees and receive store discounts for volunteering at the co-op and in the community.

Weavers Way works in conjunction with partners Food Moxie and Henry Got Crops at its two Northwest Philadelphia farms to supply its stores, a CSA, and the co-op’s Farm Market. The partnerships also teach future generations urban agriculture skills.

“For 50 exciting years we have been taking care of each other and our growing team by providing members and non-members alike with fair wages, healthy, sustainable, local grocery alternatives and by supporting communities through programs such as community fridges, vendor diversity and our Food For All discount program, to name a few,” Kathleen Casey, Weavers Way Development Director, said.

“We are extremely grateful for the passion and contributions made by so many to help collaboratively keep our triple bottom line business healthy and strong and we look forward to what the next 50 years will bring,” she said.
