Tours of Abington High School in high demand

Due to popular demand, Abington Senior High School officials have added four additional time slots to their community tours. The grand re-opening of the renovated high school and the state-of-the-art Stephen A. Schwarzman Center for Science and Technology will take place on November 19.

Tours of the facilities will run every 15 minutes from 9:30am to 12:00pm and are open to area residents and alumni. Sign-ups, which can be found here, are required for a tour time.

Alumnus Stephen A. Schwarzman, a graduate of the Class of 1965, donated $25 million to the project in an effort to help inspire a new generation of future-ready learners.

The new science and technology center includes science, art and general classroom space, and was designed to accommodate the addition of 9th grade students into the building as part of a districtwide grade span reconfiguration set to be implemented in September. Previously, Abington Senior High School only housed grades 10-12.

Other additions throughout the school building meant to create space for the additional grade level included the construction of an auxiliary gymnasium, career center and a new cafeteria. More than 93 percent of the existing 1956 facility has also been renovated, as this project was the first major renovation the building had undergone in nearly two decades.

The reconfiguration of the grade spans has also helped pave the way for innovative programming at Abington Senior High School, including a college and career Pathways Program. It provides high school students more flexibility to choose classes across a range of subjects and specialties, providing greater exposure to a variety of industries and career fields earlier in life.
