Several Springfield police officers honored for 2023 achievements, Rotary Club gives $32K for Piszek Pavilion construction

The Springfield Township Police Department saw several of its officers recognized during Wednesday’s Police Commendation Ceremony in Wyndmoor, courtesy of the Board of Commissioners.

The following officers received awards for their achievements during 2023:

  • Sergeant Whitney, Officer Fantry, and Officer Litwinowicz received Commendatory Letters for assisting in an April 22 officer-involved shooting with first aid and perimeter.
  • Detectives Baiada and Craig received Commendations of Merit for a May 5 attempted homicide/aggravated assault/robbery incident which resulted in the arrest of four males.
  • Officer Donnelly and Sergeant Wilbur received Commendatory Letters for a traffic stop involving a July 23 fleeing/elusive suspect which resulted in an arrest.
  • Sergeant Badolato, Corporal Kauffman, Officer Tauscher, and Officer Lopez received a Unit Citation for their work in an August 16 burglary/stolen vehicles incident which resulted in the arrest of a suspect who had stolen two vehicles from the same address on separate dates.
  • Lieutenant Mersky received a Commendatory Letter for his work in the PLEAC Accreditation process and certification with consultants who were hired after the township was successful in receiving a Department of Justice Community-Oriented Policing grant.
  • Lastly, Officer Gross received a Highway Safety Award.


In related news, the township’s PA Rotary Club presented the Board with a check for $32,000 for a new picnic pavilion to be built at Cisco Park in Erdenheim.

The pavilion will be named the Piszek Pavilion after passed member Bill Piszek and is financed through a Rotary District 7430 grant and fundraising efforts of the club, officials said.
